Leonel Sousa received the PhD degree in electrical and computer engineering from  Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa (UL), Lisbon, Portugal, in 1996. He is currently a full professor at UL and a senior researcher at the R&D Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores (INESC-ID). Dr. Sousa has authored or co-authored more than 300 papers in journals and international conferences, has organized several international conferences (ISPDC, EuroPar, FPL, ARITH), and edited ten special issues of international journals. His research interests include parallel computing and computer architectures. He is Fellow of IET and Distinguished Scientist of ACM.
